Chillers and PICV - October'24

On 5th October 2024, the MEP Learnings Community hosted another insightful meetup, bringing together professionals passionate about advancing their knowledge in the building services industry. Close to 12 engineers joined us for an evening of learning and collaboration.

The focus of this session was on two key topics: Air-Cooled Chillers and Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs), both of which are critical in ensuring efficient and sustainable building operations.

1. Air-Cooled Chillers

• Situations where air-cooled chillers are more suitable, particularly in Dubai’s climate.

2. Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs)
The second session delved into the functionality and advantages of PICVs in HVAC systems. Highlights included:

• How PICVs simplify balancing and control in chilled water systems.
• Energy-saving benefits of using PICVs over conventional valves.
• Real-world examples showcasing their impact on system performance and operational costs.

The discussion emphasized the role of PICVs in achieving better control and efficiency, which resonated strongly with attendees working on complex HVAC projects.
